Bramhall Evening
TG was founded in October 1965. At present there are 33 members aged
55+years. Meetings are held on the 3rd Wednesday of every month, in the
Village Club, Lumb Lane, Bramhall and start at 7-45pm. Members have
voted to change from an Evening Guild to an Afternoon Guild and from
January 2004 Meetings will be held in the Village Club starting at 2-15pm
on the same Wednesday of each month. A varied
programme of speakers is arranged for most of the year but 3 Social
evenings are also included. Members also enjoy a Summer Outing or
Luncheon, Birthday
Dinner, Christmas Party and at least one Fundraising Event which provides
money for either the Guild's chosen Charity or for funds.
Between the monthly meetings various Sections meet,
usually in the home of one of the members. At present members can join a Music
Group, a Gardening Group, Arts & Crafts, Lunch Club and Social
Group and several members are enjoying getting together to play Scrabble.
All Guild members are also entitled to take part
in all the events organised locally by Stockport and District Federation
and national events arranged by TOWNSWOMEN'S GUILDS.
The National Council Meeting takes place every
year and Delegates and Observers from Guilds all over the United Kingdom
gather together to hear the Annual Report, plans for the future, listen to
distinguished Speakers and debate Topics considered to be of national
importance and needful of bringing to the attention of the Government.
Townswomen take a great interest in a wide range of
topical issues eg. Traffic Congestion, Genetics, Drugs, Asylum Seekers,
Rights of the Minorities, Crime and Punishment, Food Labeling, Carers and
many more.
